We call it a retreat because it is like going back in time in the sense of being in a farming community close to nature. You won't miss the news and the ring of the telephone. You will rise with the birds, sleep to the sound of a riot of nocturnal insects and frogs. Every time you hang the laundry to dry in the sun you will see something alive that you never saw before. In the breezy kitchen everything you need to make great food, a big fridge to keep all those fresh fruits and veggies that you brought from the market in San Isidro 30 minutes away. You will be in thermal equilibrium much of the time. Not too hot, not too cold. It's not humid. There's a taxi (15 US. each way) or walk 2 km to the local bus for a one hour trip to town (60 cents). You will enjoy friendly contact with Costa Rican country people (and their kids). The caretaker's wife will clean for you though as that is a handy source of additional income for her and she gets about US$1.50 per hour. She will make rice and beans for you if you want and will for sure invite you to dinner at some point- they really enjoy having foreigners come- it doesn't happen too often. You don't need to speak Spanish but they don't speak English. Somehow it's not a problem. There's a resident cat and our dogs, and 3 or 4 horses that can be used any time you want. Could borrow more. Caretaker will saddle. You will arrange with him and pay him something but the horses are free. He'll guide you around IF his farmwork schedule permits- they're super friendly and unjaded.
